First Idea.
The Effects of Mental Health on Freelancers
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-51475520
The Article ties in to both my first and second idea. the article talks about Adeel Amini how his mental health effected him so much it causes him to leave the industry.
BBC News:
Amini, from Bradford, says he “almost didn’t come back” to TV after the breakdown, but ultimately decided he would not allow himself to be driven out of the career he’d spent the best part of a decade building up.
“I just thought no, why should I? Why should I stop doing what I love?”
He’s now urging broadcasters to make more effort to consider the pressures they are putting on people, and to make the industry a more welcoming place”.
This gave me the idea how the industry effects people’s mental health especially as a freelancer this gives me the idea to interview different people with their different roles tell their experience.
The article also helped me come up with my second idea in relation to freelancing.
https://filmtvcharity.org.uk/why-we-exist/our-impact/
The Film and TV Charity help and support those who are out there that are struggling with mental health issues in the industry. they conducted a survey which resulted over 9,000 people being effected. this helps me due to the fact this idea is way too big so i’m going to just get three people that have worked in the TV industry and tell about their experience. Again this article helps me pin-down on this idea.
This Article covers the death of Caroline flack with all the negative coverage that she faced. i say this was important to research due to how all the coverage effected Caroline. its important as it shows negativity effects you a lot and this happens a lot in the TV industry as people critique how well you do your job. therefore i think this will be great angle if i choose to do this idea.
Topic 2
Freelancing A Way of Life or A Big Flop.
I have decided to go with topic as i feel like its the idea that is most achievable.
http://www.findmyfreelance.com/how-freelancing-benfits-you/
This website just gives a little bit of info how freelancing benefits you as a whole. it is quite dry with information. but gives me a rough idea what i’m looking for and what information i need.
This information goes into full detail about freelancing and the benefits of it. but its about too much information to use due to the doc being 6-8 mins long. but i think it gives me a good idea to get a mix of people who are part of the industry. But does have information there that is useful to use.
By industry i mean those who have worked in the Creative Industries as i feel i would be able to get more information through various and different people instead of just sticking to TV.
https://www.freelanceuk.com/become/pros-and-cons-freelancing.shtml
This website i found what the cons about freelancing are. i think the angle for this idea is about telling what are both the pro’s and cons are for becoming a freelancer. plus with it being based shown on BBC Scotland i say this idea is the best one due to having both the BBC and STV Studios in Glasgow. therefore i feel this idea could also help people to decide to go freelance if its the right thing for them when they tune in.

https://www.freelancersunion.org/insurance/health/
These are some of the websites that i looked at for my pitch as i needed more research in order to make the idea come to reality. the story i went for was the more of money side of things as again being a freelancer is all about how you make a living.

I found two documentaries that students made about their lives as freelancers. they talked about what there rates where and how make a living when freelancing so this where i decided to focus on the money side.

With the Corona Virus now effecting the most of the world it really made me think about changing my angle by seeing how the virus is effecting freelancers, with everything closed off this means a lot people are losing some work with some being forced to become a freelancer. not only that a lot of freelancers are being effected as well. So i feel this could be a very good driving force for the doc.
Topic 3
Job Opportunities of Edinburgh Film Festival
https://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/edinburgh-international-film-festival

https://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/about-us/jobs

My third idea was opportunities that the Film Festival gave to people but i decided not to do this idea as someone else is planning to the film festival as well. so I didn`t want to clash with him.
i`m glad i didn`t go through with this idea as the festival has been postponed due to the corona virus therefore this idea has been shelved.

These where some of the links that found when doing my research for my pitch the first three links where from bbc sounds where i found a few documentaries in order to get an idea what presenting style i wanted to have for my documentary. But i decided to to listen to couple of programmes from BBC Radio Scotland.

The Afternoon Show is presented by Mel and Sue they focus on talking about Scotland`s Culture which means they talk about festivals, films, art and many other things. what i liked about the presenting here is that it is very casual and conversational and i feel it would fit perfectly for my documentary as i feel it could make easier for people to understand what my documentary is about plus as said before it will it match with our magazine program perfectly.

Scotland Inspired was another podcast i looked at where the host Liz Lochhead had many people tell their experience of what they did with their lives for example comic book artists, authors and actors. i feel this was great example to use as i feel i could have my interviewees talk about their experiences similar to those in the podcast. plus i feel the target audience would enjoy my doc due the style being similar to this podcast.
